Our Workshop Philosophy
Riding is more than just a sport. It’s a passion and a way of life for equestrians. It takes years of ardent training. Riding tests your symmetry, balance, stability and coordination. While it is easy to blame your horse when things don’t go well, you may need to look inward, since your horse’s movements directly reflect your movements. We are highlighting Pilates, a total body system that conditions both body and mind.
Pilates targets your deep postural muscles, bringing your body into correct alignment and changing the way you move.
Pilates aids in the development of good classical posture, by creating a flexible pelvis and core stability, assisting you to build a deep and independent seat.
Pilates improves independent movement of your limbs, promotes steady head carriage and better use of your inside leg, independent of your outside leg, to improve the bend through your horse’s body.
Pilates trains refinement of your aids by improving sensitivity and accuracy, creating precise control and strength in your lower legs; essential to creating harmony with your horse.
Our Workshop Goals
Our Pilates Workshop is lead by Joan Adler, and will focus on providing an:
Interactive discussion of Pilates principles,
Unmounted group warm-up that can be used daily ahead of riding,
Pilates exercise class, using a variety of props to challenge the riders balance, and help to increase body awareness,
Participants will have the opportunity to work on the Pilates Reformer - a unique apparatus which through the use of springs and the moving carriage, both stretch and strengthen the rider's muscles in the same exercise.
